Insurance for your computer

When you think of insurance you typically think of car or health insurance, and just like our cars we never think about having the insurance until we need to use it. The same can be said for computers, we never think about a backup until we have an accident.

Do you have a good backup?

Many of today's offices rely on computers to hold much of there scheduling and customer information. Many offices also have regular backups that are supposed to run each night. However many offices also have "blank" backups. A blank backup is when the backup has an error and stops running, thus your data is unreliable at best. Many times offices will have completely blank backup discs that were never correctly setup.

Is there a reliable backup?

The answer is yes. The Local Guy Remote Backup is setup in such a way that you will never have to worry about your backup again.

Remote Backup Pricing

There is a minimum charge of $10 per month, after the first 5 gigabytes pricing is $2 per gigabyte additional for data stored on our server, we recommend using the Autoselect function or ask for assistance if you are not sure of what to backup. Keep in mind that pictures and music are larger files are typically 2 to 4 megabytes in size and can add up quickly.

What can I backup and is it protected?

Our customers are able to store any data that can be loaded onto a Windows/Vista based computer. Your data is encrypted using the latest encryption and compression technologies, the type of encryption and your encryption key are all selectable and are known only to you. When the Remote Backup program is setup it will provide this information to you, we strongly recommend you keep in a safe place. If you do not have this information WE CANNOT RESTORE YOUR DATA! If you would like you can send the encryption information to us and we will keep a copy on hand in case it is ever needed.

Onsite & Phone Service

The Local Guy provides an array of tools to support our customers, whether you have a simple question or your software is not working, give us a call and we'll do our best to fix it right over the phone. If the problem is severe enough we can dial-in to fix it as well. We want you to feel comfortable with your system and know that easily accessible support will help when you need it most.

(Please note: If your call is 10 minutes or less it's free!)

Sometimes, when it comes to complex technical equipment malfunctioning you can't just take it into a service center or have it fixed over the phone. In addition to providing top level technical support over the phone and through dialing in, when the need arises to come to your office, The Local Guy has you covered. Our service technicians our polite, knowledgeable, and eager to help get your system running correctly in a timely manner. Whether you have a virus or a server is malfunctioning, you can count on The Local Guy to be their when the time comes.

Our professional fees are $40 per hour for phone support with a 30 minute minimum and $75 per hour with a minimum of 1 hour onsite time. If you are a frequent user of our services or find it in your best interests, you may consider joining our service contract program. This allows you to pay a per month fee that has unlimited hourly phone and onsite time.

Service Contract

To allow us to best serve our customers we have arranged a monthly agreement based on the number of computers, servers, and printers connected to your network. Using this information we are able to estimate the costs for keeping your system running from month to month and allow us to keep our technicians working without over charging our customers.

Let’s take just a minute to review the basics of your service contract. If you have additional questions after reviewing this document please feel free to contact us at 801-386-9491.

Our service contract is laid out very simple, you only pay for the equipment you have in your office. There is a $100 minimum per month and beyond that, our services are billed out based on the following rates.

As an industry average the normal rate for onsite customer service is $75.00 per hour (one hour minimum). This is how we help you save money - if you have only 1 server, 5 computers, and 2 printers; you would pay only $145 per month every month as opposed to only 2 hours of service based on standard consulting rates.

Now let’s look at what is covered under your service contract. We have really worked to give you the best service available.

The initial clean up and optimization of your system will be performed to ensure that your data and computer systems continue to perform as expected. During this process of clean up and evaluation if any of your computers or equipment are in need of upgrades or replacement you will be quoted new equipment to replace the old or aging equipment.

Your service contract includes normal maintenance on your computers. Our technicians are going to verify your backup system, check out your server, all workstations, update the anti-virus software, and perform standard maintenance. All of this is typically taken care of as part of your initial clean up and optimization of your network.

Your service contract includes phone and on-site technical support for existing workstations and peripherals that can be supported by our staff. This means that if a computer hard drive dies, we will put in the new hard drive at cost, re-load the operating system, your practice management system, any other programs you need, and get you back up and running. All of this is included in the price of your service contract.

Your service contract includes telephone and remote access technical support with automatic remote control, enabling us to support your system more efficiently.

Your service contract includes a discount on labor to install additional workstations and peripherals that you purchase. When you purchase additional equipment from us we do not charge for technicians to install it, this is part of your contract! If you decide to purchase additional computer hardware/accessories through someone rather than us we charge a reduced rate for installation of this equipment. Normal installation costs are $75 per hour per technician. As a service contract customer, these services are available to you at the fee of $55 per hour per technician and the first hour and travel time are non-billable.

Spyware is covered under your service agreement as long as the proper preparations are taken to ensure that you are protected. The Local Guy will load an anti-spyware program onto your system if necessary however it is up to your practice to keep the system clean. NEVER download programs or email that looks suspicious or that is strange in any way. If you have any questions about a program or suspect possible threats to your system call us immediately. Spyware will cripple your system and is very time consuming to remove. If your system is continually being infected with spyware we will review your entire office’s internet and computer use habits and suggest any solutions to the problem that are available. If the problem continues more than 3 times you will be billed the discounted hourly rate for continued removal of spyware.

Your service contract does not include any computer hardware components that require replacement. Generally, if you bought the computer system from us, you have a 3 year warranty for the hardware. We will come out and try and fix whatever we can, but if it has to be replaced, the parts are not covered. The labor however is covered and the repair will be completed on or off site as needed.

Your service contract does not include adding new wiring to your office, or troubleshooting existing wiring that was not installed by The Local Guy. The reduced hourly rate will apply to any additional wiring that is performed.

The most commonly dealt with questions have to deal with response time, mileage, travel expenses, and anything else you can be billed for?

Non-critical support issues (printer, one workstation on a network, etc...) are generally handled as scheduled support. Generally we will try and troubleshoot your problem over the phone or through remote access. If this fails, we will schedule a tech to be out.

Critical support issues (server down, etc...) are handled as quickly as possible with a "next available technician" dispatch policy. This means that we will make every effort to get someone there as quick as possible (usually within 2-4 hours).

Travel expenses are not billed for customers on service contracts that have a normal issue. In some cases, we may need to send a senior technician to diagnose extensive issues. Many states have senior technicians based in them, and consequently, no travel expenses are billed. If, however, your area is not part of an area readily serviced by a senior technician, and it is necessary to send one, you would be billed for the expenses only. The following areas currently have a senior technician based in their region, and would have senior technician support services without additional cost: Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. We continually add senior technicians to our staff to improve our coverage. As of the creation of this document, Areas outside of the before mentioned states will be required to reimburse The Local Guy for travel costs for onsite technical service.

PLEASE NOTE: As your network changes, adding or subtracting computers or printers, your service contract will automatically be billed accordingly. If you change your network please let us know so we can adjust your charges.
